I'm not sure what the hell I'm doing here

Ok guys, I've been hounded by my husband for at least the past year about starting a blog sharing all the ideas, designs, and creations we've come to know as Chalk It Up.  I think I just have been putting it off for various reasons that really are not good reasons at all!  But alas, my last baby went off to kindergarten yesterday and now I'll have all the time in the world to figure this stuff out, right?...

Funny thing is, I'm always "writing" a little post in my head but then just have never done anything about it!  I think the technical side of blogging is a little daunting for me and I don't consider myself the greatest writer so bare with me!

Let me start by introducing myself, my name is Marie Flores and I'm a farm girl at heart growing up on a farm in Iowa. Right out of high school I moved to Arizona on a whim with my best friend to attend ASU and then met my future husband (Alex) one, steamy night at Club Rio in Tempe. I fell head over heals for Alex and Arizona has now been by home for 20 years. Crazy thing is, I have now lived in Arizona longer than I ever did Iowa...now I feel old. I graduated from ASU with a BS in Recreation and Tourism Management and worked in the industry for just a few years before I got married and started having a family.

I have always loved anything to do with decorating and design. I even took a class my senior year in High School on design and started out with more classes in college, but being young and silly, I dropped those and went a different path. Once Pinterest came out, it was like that creative bug came out of me again. It was so fun finding ideas and then doing them. My husband Alex is so handy and will try anything so when we got our home over 5 years ago, there was always a project that I would find for him to make. We started posting some items we made - just to show friends and family - and out of the blue, we get a call to make some items for a local store to sell!

Since then, we've grown in our design and creation abilities to be confident to start this little business of ours, Chalk It Up.  This is my full time gig and I am excited that now with the kids in school, I am able to focus on it and grow it even more. I am truly blessed to be able to stay at home and work while still being there for our three kids. I hope this blog will be a good way to aid me in that.  I'm not sure what I'm doing with this but I know for sure there is a path for me and it will be a good one!

Stay tuned for more soon.  I hope to show you work I've done, what I'm working on currently, and give a peak into our daily lives as a mom, business owner, and wife.

Until then...
Marie
