Starting Simple

And just like that, we have one month down in 2020!  How are you doing on your goals for the year?  This year I really want to focus on growing this business and figuring out a good groove to get into.  I swear, I have so much swirling inside my head that I start one thing and then SQUIRREL!!!! I'm off to something else, not even finishing what I started already.  A few weeks ago, I just jumped at the opportunity to repaint our nightstands.  I have been wanting to do it for awhile and there was no time like the present.  Getting this done was so nice and that in turn made me start painting our master bedroom! Working on this one room and taking action in doing it, makes me so excited to work on the rest of the house.

Starting with one room at a time makes you feel accomplished.  There is so much I want to do everywhere else, but by focusing on this one section and completing it feels SO good.  I can already feel the fresh change and I am now on the hunt for the PERFECT corner chair and getting new curtains up and then done!

I do have to say another benefit of focusing on the one room is that this room is now the cleanest room in the house.  I have not only cleaned out drawers as I was having to move furniture to paint, but in prepping to paint the walls, they had to be dusted.  Wow, was I shocked at how dusty they were.  Hard for this lady to see with her OCD on cleaning!  And while I had the ladder out, I really cleaned our fan!  Ahhhh, nothing like a dust free room.

As I have mentioned before, my design style is more along the lines of Scandinavian.  Think simple and clean.  Ikea is a great reference of that with their clean lines and simple designs all the while with so much function.  Our nightstands are a set that I found at Goodwill.  The brand on them is FOUNDERS, which was a line of furniture designed by Jack Cartwright.  His pieces are mid-century with great lines.  His pieces sell for $1,000's and I got two for them for $15!!!  SCORE!

When I first got them I added chrome legs and painted them a grey, which I have never been happy with.  So, I painted them white as well as changing the pulls and legs and making them a matte black.  Have I ever told you how much I LOVE black?!  This black and white contrast looks amazing and I am so happy with how it turned out.  Now that those were done, it was time to start painting our bedroom.

I thought I had my paint color, Simple Grey, but then a friend gave me several white samples and it is such a difference when you see everything side by side.  ALWAYS do test patches!  I ended up going with the color Fossil by Dunn Edwards and I love how fresh our master looks now.  I am on the hunt for a perfect chair and then I have green curtains I am going to add for a pop of color.  That is the great thing about having a light base color.  You can always add color everywhere else.  Don't think of white as boring, but as a blank canvas for you to add to and easily change out with the times.

On to the next room...the office/guest room!
