Trends
Home trends, like fashion, are ever changing and evolving. It's almost hard to keep up!
The home we are currently in, we have been in for just over six years now. I have painted, changed curtains(several times) and added those perfect pieces that I have searched high and low for. Of course, a homes look and feel is ever evolving. Have you ever noticed that someone may complement you on your home and you are quick to say "oh, but this needs to be done, and I have to buy this or that yet". Just like if someone were to complement on you yourself, you are quick to try to dissuade their opinion. Like ourselves, our homes are a work in progress but it is something that you put your heart and sole into so take that complement. Think of how far you have come!
I love seeing old photos pop up of our living room and how EMPTY it was! But over the years I have found classic pieces to warm it up and make it our own. Do not worry what is "on trend". Keeping up with the times could be as easy as changing out some pillows and rug and viola, it's new again!
Red used to be my jam. We had an accent wall in our first condo that was a deep red. I remember it literally took like 8 coats of paint to cover the yellow underneath! All my accents were red and I had a very country vibe going. I have since evolved and now I am really honing in on my style. I think the perfect start is to have a clean palette. Just a few years ago, all varieties of grey was the style, today, we are starting to see warmer colors be introduced back in. The most popular colors are black and white as well as using greens and blues to accent. I love the black and white as this is a great base to have and can easily change with the times. Black is...dare I say my favorite color, as well as green!
As you can see from our master bath remodel, black and white is the theme. The black warms up the room so that the white is not so stark and cold. I was able to add an antique Kilim rug that I found on Facebook Marketplace to add that pop of color.

With now being home 24/7, I am able to continue my painting of the entire house. I am feeling so good, covering all the grey tones with a fresh white. Check out how light and bright my hallway is now here and how I am tackling my fear of heights with this whole home painting project!
I am going with a white that has a creamer tone to it, FOSSIL by Dunn Edwards. All the floors in the house have a red tone to them. We have nice wood floors in our hallway and tiles with red tints in our kitchen (much to my dismay!) and with this warm white, it does not look so stark against them. It complements the floors and makes the wood pop. Now to just keep the floors clean all the time is the next fun challenge.

I did it! Painted the WHOLE house! |
Having a neutral backdrop is a great way to keep up with the ever changing looks in home decor. When you have a clean slate, it is easy as ever to keep up with the constant looks. Changing out some pillows and a rug are just a few ways to add any style of pop that you love.
Now that I have my back drop, onto working on the kitchen. Stay tuned!
